How To Make 3D Text In Photoshop

Just a tut on how to make 3D text in photoshop!

So you’re to lazy to go and download Cinema4D? But you still want 3D text? Well this tutorial will show you how to achieve 3D text in Photoshop. Keep in mind Photoshop isn’t exactly 3D friendly, so this is the best you can do.

First of all, create a new text layer, add any color overlay or gradient you want. You can add stroke if you want, but for now, no shadow or glow. Bevel and Emboss is fine, but I prefer not to use that on text.

For example, this text has outer glow and drop shadow.

That won’t do, I need to remove both glow and drop shadow.

Much better. Now, rasterize your text layer. Make sure you’re done because once you Rasterize it, you can’t edit the text. If you’re unfamiliar with how to rasterize, right click your text layer, and click Rasterize type.

Now, move the copied layer under the original layer, by clicking on the copied layer and holding it, and dragging it under the original layer, simple eh?

(You can go back to the original layer and add glow and drop shadow if you want.)

Now, Ctrl+T, this will appear.

Hold Shift + Alt and drag the corner of the box that just appeared, inward. Just a little bit, and click enter. This will be your result.

Now, Ctrl+J the copied layer, and do the same thing. (Ctrl+T, drag even smaller) Do this 1 or 2 more times then stop. Merge all of the copied layers. If you’re unfamiliar with how to do this, click the first copied layer, hold Shift, and click the last layer. It should look like this.

Now, right click any of the copied layers and hit merge. All the layers will merge in to one. Now, right click the new layer and hit Blending Properties. Add a stroke (no bigger than 2 or 3 pixels), a drop shadow, and a black color overlay. The customization is up to you. The final result should look like this

As you can see it looks 3D, as 3D as photoshop will give you. I still use and recommend Cinema4D, but this is the method I used to get 3D text before I had Cinema4D. I hope this helped you all, thanks and bye!
